Traditional event of Tamilnadu-JALLIKATTU

The Jallikattu is a traditional exhibition in which large numbers of people were participated.It is also known as “Sallikkattu,eru thazhuvuthal and manju virattu”.These traditional event is take placed in Tamilnadu,India since 400-100 BC.
The Supreme Court ordered to ban Jallikattu for justification of cruelty to animals based on the animal rights activists group under the act of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
In January 2017 the people were protested in large groups in several locations across the Tamil Nadu. The days passed on,the protests aganist jallikattu were successed and finally legalised locally.On 23 January the Govt of Tamilnadu legally oproved the Jallikattu.
These occasion is takes place in the time of Pongal on Mattu Pongal day. The Bos Indicus bull such as the Pulikulam or Kangayam breeds are released into the crowd.Many were participated to grab the hump of the bull back with both the arms and hang on it.The bull tries to escape but participants should stop the bull.
These is a traditional sport which is played in open ground.This will be annually in the month of January.The word sallikattu means salli the ‘coins’ and kattu is ‘package’.sallikattu is known as the package of coins ,which are tied to bull’s horns.The participants should be rocover them from the horn.
Manju virattu exactly means ‘bull chasing’.The Ayar people who lived in the ‘Mullai’ division were believed in this tradition.Thereafter it is displayed for bravery and the prize money were given to the participants.
In 2019 Jallikattu event were organised without permission.500 bulls were part of them.And 300 bull-tamers were registered themselves and participated in the event.The event were held in Ariyalur,Tamilnadu.Ten were badly injured and taken to the hospital.Goldcoins,cycles and cots were distributed to the winners.
Jallikattu includes in three variants which plays a major participations.
Vadi manjuvirattu :
It is commonly used category of jallikattu. The bull is released from a closed space and the participants should attempt to cover or enclose their arms or hands around the hump of the bull and hold on to it to win the award.Only one person is allowed to attempt one time to win the prize money.
Veli virattu :
In veli virattu the bull is released directly into open ground.The participants should attempt to cover or enclose their arms or hands around the hump of the bull and hold on to it to win the award.Only one person is allowed to attempt one time to win the prize money same as Vadi manjuvirattu
Vatam manjuvirattu :
In Vatam manjuvirattu,the bull is tied with 15m rope.The bull is free of physical restrictions to move any where .A team of seven to nine members in time period given is 30 minutes should gift the token that is tied on the bull’s horn.
